Mirror Double Pulley: the perfect setup for glute kickbacks

Glute kickbacks on the Mirror Double Pulley at the Booty Area

If we had to pick the most versatile and dynamic machine in any weights room, the answer would be unanimous: the cable pulley. In traditional gyms, though, pulleys are usually fought over for all kinds of exercises and are almost always set with their back to the mirrors or tucked away in dim corners, making it hard to correct your posture or film content.

The Mirror Double Pulley was designed to fix this problem at the root. By combining an ultra-smooth double pulley with a built-in front mirror, it becomes the visual centrepiece of the Booty Area. Let's break down why it's an essential piece of kit and how to get the most out of it in your routines.

Why is it the undisputed star for analytical, isolation-focused work?

Unlike rigid lever machines, cable training gives you constant tension throughout the entire range of the exercise, both as you push and as you return. That makes it the perfect tool for glute kickbacks, pulldowns, cable crossovers, abductions and pretty much any exercise you can think of.

The Mirror Double Pulley's key advantage is its built-in front mirror. By performing your glute kickbacks facing the mirror, you can correct your posture down to the millimetre in real time, making sure you're not arching your lower back or twisting your hips dangerously. It's also strategically built for content creation: it always gives you your best angle facing forward so you can film yourself.

How-to guide: the perfect cable glute kickback

To achieve pure isolation of the gluteus maximus and medius without straining the back, teach your members to follow these steps:

  1. Initial setup: set the pulley outlet to its lowest position. Attach the padded ankle cuff to your ankle and clip it onto the pulley carabiner.
  2. Posture facing the mirror: step back so the cable has tension from the start. Grip the handles firmly and tilt your torso slightly forward, keeping your back completely straight and your eyes fixed on the mirror ahead.
  3. The push (the kick): keeping your standing leg slightly bent for balance, drive the cuffed leg backwards explosively but under control, using only the strength of your glute.
  4. Lock and control: at full extension, squeeze the glute for 1 second. Use the mirror to check your body isn't swaying and that your hips stay symmetrical and aligned.
  5. Controlled return: let the leg return forward slowly and steadily, resisting the cable's pull the whole time before starting the next rep.

馃挕 Trainer's tip: since it's a symmetrical double pulley, it's a fantastic machine for alternating unilateral exercises or running complex supersets without ever switching stations or moving weights, keeping the training pace at its peak.
