Climber: functional cardio and the ultimate glute finisher

Training
Training on the Climber in the Booty Area

When we think about cardio within a lower-body routine, most people picture walking on an inclined treadmill or pedalling a stationary bike. But if what you're after is a tool that doesn't just burn calories, but also challenges your legs' endurance and keeps muscle activation extreme with every step, you need something different.

The Climber is the ultimate tool for the job. This functional stair climber combines natural movement biomechanics with brutal intensity, making it the undisputed star for warming up or finishing off your session in the Booty Area. We take a deep dive into why every step counts and how to get the most out of it.

Why is it the best cardio exercise for glute activation?

Unlike other cardio machines with a passive or flat motion, the Climber continuously simulates climbing tall steps. Biomechanically, this technical action forces a deep hip extension with every step, directly and intensely activating the glutes, quads and hamstrings.

Training on this Climber gives you a triple-impact stimulus:

And thanks to its smooth design and perfect integration into the space, it's also one of the favourite stations to stand in front of the phone mounts and film your finisher with full attitude.

User guide: how to master the Climber to squeeze the most out of every rep

To avoid overloading your knees and transfer all the pushing force straight into your glutes, follow these steps:

  1. Starting position and setup: step onto the Climber, planting your feet firmly on the large non-slip pedals. Select your resistance level on its state-of-the-art LED or touch console.
  2. Grip and posture: hold the ergonomic multi-function handlebars. Keep your torso subtly leaning forward but with your back completely straight and your core braced. Avoid completely dropping your body weight onto your arms or rounding your shoulders.
  3. Pushing from the heel (the key point): as you start moving, make sure you push through each step driving the force from the heel, not the toes. By consciously stepping through the heel, you make sure the posterior chain (glutes and hamstrings) takes the bulk of the work.
  4. Deep range of motion: don't take short, quick, chaotic steps. Aim for deep steps, as if climbing two steps at a time, so your hips work through their maximum range of extension and flexion.
  5. Steady pace: keep a controlled cadence that lets you sustain the effort. You can use it for 5-10 minutes at the start of the routine as a brutal dynamic warm-up, or run 15-minute high-intensity (HIIT) intervals at the end to finish off the session.

馃挕 Trainer's tip: if you want an extra stimulus for the glute medius and outer glutes, try walking with your knees angled subtly outward as you push, or do intervals holding a static half-squat position while your legs keep moving. The burn is guaranteed!
